Why We Use Sheffield Metals —
and Why It’s the Best Choice for Your Roof

Introduction
Not all metal roofs are created equal.
Even if two roofs look identical, what’s beneath the paint — the steel, coating, and finish — makes a massive difference in how long they last and how well they perform.
At Bonner Master Roofing, we use Sheffield Metals International products exclusively. Their steel combines the best base metal, coating system, and finish in the industry — which is why their roofs not only look incredible but stay that way for decades.
Here’s what sets Sheffield apart from the rest.
1. A True Kynar® Finish — Not a Blend or “Equivalent”
When you hear “Kynar finish,” it’s easy to assume every metal roof with that label is the same — but it’s not.
Many suppliers offer “Kynar-like” or “50% PVDF” coatings that are cheaper but significantly less durable.
Sheffield uses a true 70% Kynar 500® or Hylar 5000® PVDF resin — the industry’s gold standard for color retention and weather resistance.
Why that matters:
-
Kynar resists UV degradation far better than silicone-modified polyester (SMP) or polyester paints.
-
It doesn’t chalk, fade, or peel like lower-grade finishes.
-
It’s flexible and chemically stable — meaning it won’t crack when panels expand and contract with temperature.
This finish is so resilient that it comes with a 40-year warranty and often lasts much longer in real-world conditions.

2. Kynar’s Unique Chemistry — Why It’s So Tough

Simply put: Kynar doesn’t just protect the roof — it protects the protection.
Kynar isn’t just another paint — it’s a polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) resin with an exceptionally low moisture absorption rate.
Because it’s non-porous, water, salt, and pollutants can’t penetrate or break down the finish. That’s why the surface doesn’t blister, oxidize, or fade even after decades of sun, rain, and snow.
Other coatings try to imitate Kynar but can’t match its combination of flexibility, color stability, and chemical resistance.
3. The Heaviest, Most Precise 24-GA Steel Available
Sheffield’s 24-gauge steel isn’t just thicker — it’s also flatter, stronger, and more consistent than most on the market.
Here’s why:
-
It starts with U.S.-made steel from domestic mills — not imported coil.
-
Every coil is stretched, flatted, and calibrated to an extremely tight tolerance, ensuring uniform thickness across the sheet.
-
It’s coated with Galvalume®, a zinc-aluminum alloy that provides superior corrosion resistance.
Together, the Galvalume base coat + Kynar finish make Sheffield’s panels:
-
More impact resistant against hail and debris
-
Better at thermal control (thicker metal absorbs and releases heat more slowly)
-
More dimensionally stable, reducing oil-canning and panel distortion

The result is a panel that performs as beautifully as it looks — for decades longer than cheaper, thinner alternatives.
4. Proudly Made with U.S. Steel and Quality Control
Sheffield Metals buys its steel exclusively from U.S. domestic mills, ensuring full traceability, ethical production, and consistent quality.
Their calibration process has one of the lowest tolerances for variation in the industry, meaning every coil of metal that comes through their facility meets exacting specifications for flatness and thickness.
That level of consistency is crucial for fabrication — especially for custom trim and standing seam systems like the ones we build in-house.
It’s what allows our panels to fit perfectly, lay flat, and lock cleanly without distortion.

5. Why It Matters for Your Roof
That’s why we don’t cut corners with cheaper imported coils or mixed PVDF coatings.
Your roof is only as good as the metal it’s made from — and we build with the best.

Every detail of Sheffield’s process — from U.S.-made base steel to true Kynar finishes — translates directly into real-world performance:
-
Longer lifespan (50–60+ years)
-
Superior fade and corrosion resistance
-
Cleaner aesthetics with fewer imperfections
-
Higher resale value due to premium materials
